MT

Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)

Detection of surface and subsurface cracks in ferromagnetic materials.

Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) is a fast, reliable non-destructive testing method used to detect surface-breaking and subsurface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials. Magnetic flux leakage is made visible by the fine iron particles applied to the surface.

TESKO carries out MT inspections using visible and fluorescent (UV) techniques with yokes, prods and bench-type equipment. All work is reported and documented in accordance with the applicable standards and acceptance criteria.

Typical Applications

  • Weld toe and HAZ crack detection
  • Castings and forgings
  • Structural and lifting equipment
  • In-service fatigue crack monitoring

Why MT (Magnetic Particle Testing)?

  • Very fast and cost-effective screening
  • High sensitivity to tight surface cracks
  • Portable — works in the field or shop
  • Immediate, visible indications

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

MT is faster and detects slightly subsurface flaws, but only works on ferromagnetic materials. For stainless, aluminium and other non-magnetic materials, we use liquid penetrant (PT) instead.
